Memtrove is developed by Mei Biaokui ("we"). Memtrove is a file and bookmark search tool that runs locally on your Mac. We do not collect or upload your files, your index, your searches or your usage. The app has no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no advertising or analytics SDK. This policy also covers our website, https://memtrove.app; see section 5.

1. Data that stays on your Mac

Data Location Notes
Index (file names, paths, extracted text, semantic vectors, tags) ~/Library/Application Support/Memtrove/loci.db Readable only by your user account (permissions 0600)
Settings and logs config.toml and memtroved.log in the same folder Logs contain file paths and are likewise readable only by you
License state license.json in the same folder Trial start date, license key, activation instance ID, the product the key belongs to
Semantic model models/ in the same folder Public model files downloaded from Hugging Face
App state ~/Library/Application Support/app.memtrove.desktop Whether you have completed setup

Deleting these folders deletes all of Memtrove's data. Memtrove only reads your files; it never modifies, moves or deletes them.

2. When Memtrove connects to the internet

Memtrove only goes online in the following cases, and each time sends only what that feature needs:

  1. Downloading the semantic model (once, when you click "Download model" during setup or in Settings): public model files are downloaded from Hugging Face (huggingface.co). The request contains none of your data; like any website, Hugging Face sees your IP address.
  2. License activation and checks (when you activate a key, then at most once a day while online): Memtrove sends your license key and an instance identifier to our sales platform, Dodo Payments. The identifier is the fixed text "Memtrove for Mac" when activating and the instance ID Dodo Payments assigned afterwards. No device name, user name, files or usage information are sent. Being offline does not affect a license that is already activated.
  3. Checking for updates (when you click "Check for updates" in Settings): Memtrove downloads an update manifest from memtrove.app, and the update itself if you choose to install it. The request contains none of your data.
  4. Fetching bookmarked pages (off by default; only after you turn it on in Settings): Memtrove visits the addresses in your bookmarks so you can search them by content. Those sites see your IP address, just as if you visited them yourself. Memtrove respects each site's robots.txt and limits how often it visits.
  5. Purchasing: the "Buy a license" button opens Dodo Payments' checkout page in your browser. Payment details are handled by Dodo Payments; we never see your card details.

3. Connecting Claude and other AI assistants

If you connect Memtrove to Claude Desktop, Claude Code or another app that supports MCP, that app can search and read your files' content through Memtrove. Memtrove itself sends nothing anywhere, but content the AI app reads is handled under that app's own terms (for example, Claude sends conversation content to Anthropic). You can mark folders as sensitive to limit what the AI can read, or remove Memtrove from the AI app's configuration at any time.

4. Information we receive from our sales platform

When you buy, Dodo Payments acts as the reseller (Merchant of Record), handling the order, taxes and invoices, and gives us the order details (name, email, country, product and amount). We use this only to provide your license, after-sales support and the bookkeeping required by law. We do not sell it or use it for advertising. Dodo Payments' handling of your data is governed by its privacy policy: https://dodopayments.com/privacy-policy.

5. Our website

Our website is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes visitors' IP addresses to deliver pages and protect the site, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. The website (not the app) uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and understand how visitors find and use the site: which pages are viewed, where visitors come from, and whether they click Download or Buy and complete a purchase. Google Analytics sets cookies (_ga, _ga_*) and receives your IP address, browser and device details; Google does not store full IP addresses for Google Analytics 4. The analytics events contain no names, email addresses or payment details; for a completed purchase they include only the payment ID shown in the return address and the price. We don't use Google Analytics for advertising, and ad-related storage is turned off.

  • If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, no analytics cookies are set unless you click Accept in the cookie banner.
  • You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of each page, block cookies in your browser, or install Google's opt-out add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Google's handling of this data is governed by its privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Feedback form. When you send feedback on the website, we store what you write — the message, the type, and the email address and app version if you give them — together with your country as determined by Cloudflare. We don't store your IP address. The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to block spam, which processes your IP address and browser signals under Cloudflare's privacy policy. We use your feedback only to reply and to improve Memtrove; to have it deleted, contact support@memtrove.app.

6. Children

Memtrove is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Your rights

You can delete all of Memtrove's data on your Mac at any time (see section 1). To access, correct or delete your purchase records, contact support@memtrove.app. If the law where you live (for example the EU, UK or California) gives you additional rights, we will handle your request accordingly.

8. Changes

When this policy changes we will update this page and its "Last updated" date. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
